Under His Protection (Tosha’s Review)

They can escape their enemies, but not the desire between them.

Prosecutor Camden Warren is on the fast track to professional nirvana. With his charm, his sharp legal mind, and his father as chief judge in the highest court in NY, he can’t fail. Nothing can derail his rise to the top… until an attempt on his life forces him to accept the help of a man he walked out on five years ago.

Wounded in the line of duty, Lieutenant Elijah Stephenson wants to ride his new desk job until retirement—not take a glorified babysitting gig with more risk than it’s worth… especially not protecting the entitled lawyer who disappeared after the best sex of their lives.

The threat against Camden’s life is real, but their passion for each other might prove the greatest danger they’ve yet to face.

OMG this book completely blew me away. I could not put this book down. Definitely one of my top reads I have read recently and that is saying something because I have read a lot of good books. This book has everything you could want in a read. It has mystery, danger, anguish, past history between the two main characters that did not end well, family drama, blackmail, love, and so much more!!! LaQuette did such an amazing job on this book that a five star review is just not good enough for this book!!! Definitely on a highly recommended read rating from me!!

Elijah has never been scared to do his job before. From the time he became a cop he knew he wanted to work his way up through ranks. He is not scared to take the bad guys off the street. But after being attacked and almost killed while undercover, he no longer thinks he is capable of going back to that aspect of the job again. So that is why he put in for the promotion to cyber crimes.

Before he is able to start this portion of his career his captain has one more job for him. He is on protection detail for the Executive ADA. He is being targeted by a very nasty group he is about to try and take down. But they are not going to go down willingly.

Camden never expected his life to be in danger when he took on the case to take down The Path group’s head leader but that is exactly what is happening. After the attempt on his life he is going into hiding until the trial begins. What he never expects though is his protection detail to be the man that rocked his world five years ago and he walked away from. Now he has to face Elijah head on and pray he can keep his cool facade up on the process.

When Elijah finds out he is protecting the one man he could not get out of his head, he tried to refuse but his captain was not having it. Now that he is stuck with him, Elijah would not have it any other way because he is not about to let the crazies get to Camden.

Can Camden and Elijah figure out a way to spend time together without killing each other while he is in hiding? Will Camden come clean with Elijah on why he walked away five years ago? Can these two men come to some kind of understanding between them? And what happens when unexpected guests show up at their hiding place?

This was such a great read and just when you think nothing else is going to happen and these two may get a happy ending, well let’s just say you are in for another surprise. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to more by Laquette in the future.
