Lady Gaga, while performing at New York City’s famous Apollo Theater on Monday (24 June), spoke frequently about the LGBTI community.

Gaga was at the venue, which has previously seen the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown, in celebration of SiriusXM’s acquisition of Pandora.

She performed many of her most famous songs, including Bad Romance, Just Dance, Poker Face, and more.

At the end, she played the LGBTI anthem Born This Way and finished her set with Shallow from A Star Is Born.

About halfway through her show, Lady Gaga addressed the audience, bringing up Pride, the Stonewall Riots, and more.

‘’ll take a fucking global week’

‘We have a lot of things to celebrate ― it’s World Pride Week,’ she told her fans.

New York City is hosting World Pride this year, with events across the city spanning the entire month. It will culminate in a rally at the Stonewall Inn this Friday (28 June) and the big parade on Sunday (30 June).

‘I think Pride should exist 365 ― all year ― but I’ll take a fucking global week!’ she continued, before bringing up Stonewall: ‘That was when our community said “enough is enough!”‘

Gaga also gave a shoutout to transgender activist and icon Marsha P. Johnson, who was there the night the Stonewal Riots began.

Lady Gaga learns from her fans

Gaga then revealed something ‘important’ she learned from her fans: pronouns.

‘I wish to share this with anyone who is listening ― not just in this theater, but around the world ― ask the question: What is your pronoun?’ she addressed the audience.

‘Because for a lot of people it’s really hard and their pronoun is not respected or they’re not asked, and for me, I’ve grown and changed over the years in a lot of different ways. I’ve felt misunderstood in a lot of different ways.

‘All of our hardships are different ― I don’t mean to compare ― I just mean to say we’re in this together and I’ve had a million reasons to want to give up, but sometimes, if you’re lucky you just need one good reason to stick around.’

SiriusXM Hits 1 is broadcasting her performance at 5 pm on Friday. It will also play on Howard 101 at 11 pm, and then Saturday on Pandora NOW at 5 pm.
