Jacob Tobia wants us all to say a resounding “fuck you!” to shame.
As a genderqueer activist, writer, and producer, Tobia, who uses they/them pronouns, works to further acceptance of gender creativity and non-conformity across the LGBTQ spectrum. Earlier this year, Tobia made their literary debut with Sissy: A Coming-of-Gender Story, their heartfelt (and hilarious) memoir about growing up queer in rural North Carolina.
“Every time I am able to put on a dress and feel any modicum of safety, any time I’m able to put on lipstick and feel like I’m gonna be able to get from Point A to Point B safely, I thank the universe for Sylvia Rivera and Flawless Sabrina,” Tobia tells Logo, giving credit to transgender elders and pioneering activists who came before them.
